My art practice
I make art that explores my experience of the world which is shaped by illness, disability, trauma, love, rage, community and so on. I create moving image work, photography, collage, textile work, sculptures, performance, installations and paintings. My work is connected by subject matter, exploration, ideas and storytelling rather than a particular medium or style.
Examples of my work:

I will post in more detail about each artwork in following posts.
Where am I?
I currently live in Devon but most of my community is in or around South East London, as I lived and worked there for the first part of my adult life and have been in a state of constant transition since leaving. Since my illness became severe Oscar and I have been somewhat nomadic as our living situation & employment has been precarious - we live in Devon but desire to be back in the South East with our community. I have also developed a crip creative community online, which sustains me.
Why substack?
It feels like social media is dying or perhaps I am just falling out of love with it. When my illness first became severe and I was isolated to a bed for years on end, social media was a lifeline, it connected me to activism, art and crip community. Social media is still useful, but as these spaces so often seek to erase disabled, queer & marginalised voices I don't want my connection to community to be reliant on those spaces. This substack will be one way for me to stay connected with my crip, queer, creative communities.
What to expect?
For now, this space will be an artist newsletter in which I will share news, updates, works-in-progress, things I'm thinking about, things I'm listening to, reading, watching and my life.
I aim to post semi-regularly, however I exist within my own crip time sphere. My experience of time is shaped by multiple illnesses and disabilities which flare, shift, progress and make themselves known in different ways, stretching, bending and distorting time, resulting in a wholly unpredictable capacity. I require flexibility, understanding, care and compassion and I offer this back to my community. I will write and post when I have capacity.
